Why is the “Third Front” all dressed up with nowhere to go?

So KCR went to meet Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. And I hear some of the other folks also have meetings on their calendar. Some petitions to prepare for the President and the Supreme Court, etc etc.

There has been a lot of speculation on why this is happening. Haven’t they heard?

I’m only joking, except I am probably not.

They have heard for sure. Then, why are people speculating so much about the meeting schedule of the “Third Front”?

Because people are forgetting the popular Hindi rhyme… “Baithe baithe kya karenge, karna hai kuch kaam … Shuru karo Antakshari lekar Hari ka naam.”

It translates to … We are sitting around with nothing to do, let’s play some “Antakshari” to pass the time. People often recite these lines any time they are bored and end up doing something pointless just to kill time.

That’s what is happening with the so called “Third Front”, nothing else. No they don’t sense something that everybody else has missed, including the most committed (and most desperate) Pidis.

It’s just that the election is too long. It has long been over for most of these leaders: KCR, Pinarayi Vijayan, Babu and Jagan. There is nothing left for them to do except wait for the results on May 23.

How else are they going to pass the time? So they are doing “busy work”, stuff that looks like work but really is not. What else would you do if you were in their position. Better to have some meetings and have some plans ready just in case there is a surprise. After all, elections are unpredictable and politics can change in a matter of hours. Better to prepared to grab any opportunity, however unlikely it may be.

One of the things that made me laugh out loud is when it was widely reported that a bunch of opposition parties is planning a “special request” for the President.

That itself should tell you how pointless this exercise is. Why would the President listen to them? LOL! And these parties who are supposedly preparing the petition know that just as well.

But even in such action by regional parties, there is a chance for the BJP.  The BJP has no time to sit around. They have lots of seats to win in the last two phases. PM Modi is in Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

This is where the BJP could tell the voters that opposition is officially planning a khichdi sarkar. The specter of closed door meetings between small players is enough to make people nervous. And the opposition parties are making it all too real.

There is no doubt that BJP will emerge as the single largest party. However, if the BJP falls below 200, or maybe even below 220, there is a chance that somebody with 10-15 seats will become the next Prime Minister. This is one thing that almost nobody wants.

This makes every remaining seat in Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi exceptionally valuable. At 230, Modi would be PM. Five to six seats less than 230 and there could be a puppet government in Delhi run by some leader whose entire party may have only five to six seats in Parliament.

This is the message that BJP needs to hammer in Uttar Pradesh and Bengal.

The ghost of the Third Front has propaganda value for the BJP. Beyond that, nothing.

  4. Now that the five phases of the election are over and an expert like CW is talking about…if BJP will get 230 seats, this would happen and if BJP gets 220 seats that would happen. Such talk is making me nervous. What happened to the Josh (pun intended) about the possibility of BJP getting 350 seats?

    1. Leftist hate rags like the TIME and WSJ are in their death spiral because it has become unsustainable to charge for their garbage. Most Leftist professions are unsustainable because it counts on the populations being naive all the time.

In India, we need to shut the Leftist factories in academia to prevent another whole generation from doing economically unproductive things – like publishing garbage and then publishing rebuttals to that garbage. The media industry (aka propaganda industry) of yore is wholly unnecessary and unsustainable in modern times.

      1. Do you mean NYT instead of WSJ? Because WSJ has a paywall and people are ready to pay. That in turn forces WSJ to provide accurate information, at least so far as the investment climate is concerned. By and large WSJ is pro-India, unlike the hate rags. Even Gadhanand Dhume used to work there for a while. (Perhaps he got fired once he made his U-turn vis-a-vis Namo?)

    1. Sudheendra Kulkarni had earlier suggested billions of dollars loan to Pakistan to start a “new era of friendship”. We can now expect him to raise that figure to “hundreds of billions of dollars”. After all did not some famous man say that Muslims had the first right to resources in India ? Why leave Pakistan out of that ?

Pakistan will go down but perhaps will take down China also along with it. The Chinese backed the wrong country and will now pay for it. Instead of friendship with India, they sunk billions into a terrorist country hoping for some great economic miracle. Hoping for the Mullahs of Pakistan to support economic growth is like hoping that lions will eat cabbage and bitter gourd.

      1. The Chinese model of “economic colonization,” whereby they give unsustainable loans to countries and then grab assets when the countries default, has not been all that successful. Perhaps the Hambantota port in Sri Lanka might be the only worthwhile asset they have managed to obtain. Many of their assets in Africa are unproductive, and I fully expect that Pakistan will become a millstone around their neck.

The same was true of the erstwhile Soviet Union as well. Instead of the colonies enriching Russia, it was the other way around. Quite a contrast to the manner in which Britain bled its colonies to enrich itself.

If at all NaMo wants to reclaim POK and Gilgit-Baltistan, he needs to do that before it is ceded to China. We cannot enter into a military confrontation with China.

  5. Jagannathan writes in Swarajya about the decline of the Left in India.

    https://swarajyamag.com/magazine/the-left-in-self-destruct-mode

It is a good article full of quotable sentences, but I suggest a few amendments below.

“Religion may be the opium of the masses, but so is ideological Marxism.”

Religion is the opium of the masses, and Marxism is the opium of the asses.

“He [Marx] exhibited a crass Hegelian form of racism that would have shocked modern-day liberals.”

Not really. “Modern-day liberals” are the biggest racists and bigots around. See the “interview” by Glenn Greenwald in the previous blog of Abhishek.

“It is often said that the Indian Right lacks quality intellectuals, but the Left has exhibited mind-boggling intellectual bankruptcy despite controlling huge academic resources and institutions.”

This is an extremely bizarre sentence. WHO says that “the Indian Right lacks quality intellectuals”? It is these same leftist lunatics. Indeed the lefties have brought the word “intellectual” into deep disrepute, just like “journalist”, “activist”, “NGO” etc. On the other hand, the intellectual bankruptcy of the left arises BECAUSE of their untrammelled control of “huge academic resources and institutions.” For decades now, various “Departments of Garbage Studies” have been hiring leftists solely on the basis of ideological purity, and not the ability to think. Indeed, the ability to think and to discuss alternate viewpoints — the claimed advantages of a so-called “liberal arts” education — have vanished long ago.

    1. The Left has no intellectual roots at all in India. It is constant whining and more whining. When they had power, they battered the economy. And when they are out of power they cry for the very things they destroyed.

With the advent of social media, lot of people found out that the Left in most places solved problems by removing the people and not the problem. Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were the worst mass murderers in history. The Left has left a legacy of violence and murder in Bengal and Kerala that is there for all to see. And of course a legacy of terrorism in places like Chattisgarh and Gadchiroli.

Here is a tweet I had shared earlier that summarizes the Left in the West as well as in India
