My columns about Bengal

Someone in the comments yesterday brought up a rather curious fact. In the last few days, I have written about every topic other than BENGAL!

Is this even true, I wondered? How could I be that crazy. But the facts are what they are. I have not written about Bengal recently, not on this blog at least. The simple reason is that those columns have gone on News18.

So here are my two (long) articles on Bengal so far. Mitron, please read and comment ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Perhaps you could write a column on C-Voter’s recent prediction on a TMC win? Granted, these so-called “psephologists” are in name only and have generally had a higher loss ratio, it would be good to hear what you think.

  2. TMC might loose Bengal because of Didi’s miscalculations and ego. But the biggest miscalculation Didi made was cultivating the image of being anti-Hindu. No politician today can survive with such an image – no matter what their party. It applies to others like Stalin, Pinarayi and even to Devendra Fadnavis.

One significant thing post 2014 is Whatsapp groups that have people from every state. Before Whatsapp, the opinion of Bengalis could not reach Maharashtrians and vice versa. Today, it is one big homogenous group.

Today it is very hard for a politician to be anti-Hindu and not get hammered on Whatsapp groups. These groups are where the defeat originates – long before it becomes visible in the opinion polls. And Whatsapp groups are multi-lingual, messages get translated and shared all the time. So the messages reach nooks and corners where English liberal media has no chance of ever reaching.

This is not to say that those popular on Whatsapp groups will definitely win. But those politicians who are unpopular there have a high chance of losing.

  3. Thanks mate for posting the links. Appreciated. Much appreciated. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™.
Do post the links here of all your works. Must confess, i did feel left out when you mentioned that you are writing elsewhere. Wasn’t a terrific feeling ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Just read the second article. Nicely structured analysis and very well put together. Extremely sensible narrative that.
Getting the fragrance of evolving wisdom there…

  4. Recently there was a picture which showed about ten-twelve people holding a poster. And the headline of that report: “Bengal Election 2021: Civil Society Initiative calling For ‘No Vote To BJP’ Gaining Momentum.

How much funnier can it get?

    1. It is very funny because the two words “Civil” and “Society” dont fit those belonging to the so called “Civil Society”

“Civil Society” members organize fun events like Tractor races in civilian areas ( Tractor Grand Prix) that threaten life and limb of police and civilians. And this is when they are taking a breather from organizing riots. They are some of the most uncivil and uncaring people around. So the word “Civil” doesnt do justice to their talents.

The “Civil Society” is not really a society. It is a small bunch of andolan jeevis who used to enjoy free Lutyens bunglows, Padma awards and free flights on the PM plane. A small, pampered lot that leeches off the productivity of the land and then hurts that very land.

India’s “Civil Society” exults when India hurts. And it feels hurt when India celebrates. Some “Civil Society” this.

  5. Magnificent essay. Organizing temple tours within a city as mentioned in the below article can be a good business in addition to renewing and rejuvenating our civilization. Hope this starts happening in India too.

Temples in tiny Singapore are free of government control and free temples are a big gift to human civilization.
