500 posts!

So my eyes fell on this … and what do you know 🙂

Wow…this is going to be the 500th post on this blog! (For anyone wondering, this post was written and put in the drafts folder on Friday night… before Saturday’s post…and so this one is really the 500th post).

Over 3 lakh views! That’s right 🙂 🙂 Here are the numbers from 2016 alone, with over 2.25 lakh views and close to 7000 comments … yay!

You know, it’s hard to believe that this blog is about to enter it’s third calendar year. To think that I made it all the way this far. I still remember the excitement when this blog received its first ever comment. I was like: OMG! Someone cared to comment 🙂

You folks made it possible. Otherwise, there was no way I would still be writing almost daily on this blog, 19 months after starting it.

You know I have done this kind of post before, telling all of you how much you mean to me, thanking you for your support and encouragement. You know I love you all 🙂 So, this time, I don’t wanna bore you all by repeating the same thing all over again. Instead, I thought I would mix it up a little by asking some questions of you guys 🙂

That’s the distribution of blog readers thus far in 2016 by country. The top of the list is no surprise at all. The first two places obviously go to India and the United States, followed by the UK, UAE, Australia, Singapore and Canada.

But what happens if we go a little further down the list? It gets more fun. You’ll never guess which country is just 2 ranks below Canada :

Hurray for Slovenia! Now, I have no way of knowing if these views were just accidental clicks. But, if you live in Slovenia and you are reading this, please please let me know in the comments. I’m so curious.

What happens if we look further 2 ranks below Slovenia?

Germany? Nooo! It really breaks my heart that Germany is so far down in the list 😦 And Germany is like my most favorite European country. So, please if there is someone here reading this from Germany, please let me know in the comments 🙂

And that’s even more sad. Waaay…waay down the list, too low to count…there’s France 😦

untitled

That’s a shame. Especially considering that I started writing this blog while in France 🙂 One of my best decisions ever…

And you can see I am not getting very much love from Israel either. But that’s understandable, because I don’t think there are many Indians in Israel to begin with. Nevertheless, if you are one of them, would you let me know in the comments below?

But, guess who viewed my blog 46 times this year?

untitled

Wow…thanks Barkha 🙂

Okay, next. Where exactly is this place?

The only thing I know about this place is that Sheldon made a joke about it in The Big Bang Theory :

Now for the very bottom of the list.

Well, I don’t know where is St. Kitts & Nevis, but as a certified geek, I’m gonna look up this place now. And if I ever have the money, I will go visit it, especially if they have a nice looking passport stamp for me to keep as a souvenir (I am crazy about passport stamps). Who knows, maybe I will even run into the one guy who viewed my blog 🙂

And last but not the least. Did you know that Timbuktu is a real place? It’s in Mali.

Friends, above all, writing on this blog was fun. Let’s keep this post all about fun. So if you are reading these words and you are in an exotic country, please please share something about yourself.

  1. Congrats CW 🙂 Please continue the good work.

On a lighter note, I have a theory regarding low view count from Germany & France. Indians living there have been enamored with the same liberal idea plaguing most European countries vis a vi grand idea of integration and world order of kumbaya where all humans live in complete peace and harmony, not to mention that of late Germany & France have been such a shining example of this elitist utopia. So when you write posts which completely destroys and blows a hole right through the very fabric of the left-liberal charade, don’t be surprised if the view count has been low from these EU countries.

  4. HI CW, congrats for keeping the momentum.
How do you count the views…is it based on IP address for a particular post or based on number of times a post is opened, even from the same IP address ?

  5. Congratulations man. Its been a pleasure reading all the posts.

And by the way regarding Timbuktu, it is now been declared as a dangerous place to visit by the Mali government itself because of the presence of Islamic extremists. Plenty of tourists made it a point to visit that place just because of the history and myth associated with it. in the 1700s and 1800s European explorers have explored this place and written their experiences. One can find these books in online stores.

  6. Congratulations, CW, for this milestone achievement. I so much look forward to reading your blog every day, and it makes my day! You have a unique ability to combine facts and facets from different times and regions and people to present a cogent picture. Thank you, and I will look forward for the day when you would start a YouTube alternative narrative channel (at least hoping! )
